How to display new mail desktop alert for subfolders in Outlook?

Create a rule using the Rules Wizard. There are three types of rules you can create with the Rules Wizard. Stay organized: These rules help you filter, file, and follow-up with messages. Stay up to date: These rules notify you when you receive a message that fits a specific set of criteria. Custom rules: These are rules you create without a template. If you have Microsoft Outlook 2013, Outlook 2016, Outlook 2019, or Outlook for Office 365 running on Windows Server 2012 or Windows 8, you no longer receive new email desktop alerts (toast notifications). Additionally, Outlook is no longer listed under Search and Apps Notifications. This issue may occur for one of the following reasons.

By default, the new email desktop alert only displays when the new email message arrives in the Inbox folder. If you have created rule for setting Outlook subfolder to receive specific emails, the desktop alert cannot be displayed when the new email arrives. Without the new email desktop alert, you may miss the email and cannot be responded in time. This article will tell you how to display new mail desktop alert for subfolders in Outlook with creating rule.

I have the same problem as Ram - I have some folders that are nested up to 4 levels deep. When they are collapsed there is not a numeric indicator next the collapsed master folder to notify me that there is a new email somewhere in the nested folders. None of my master folders receive email directly. Without a numeric indicator when the folders are collapsed into the masters I have no idea that there is an email in there unless I go check every folder or leave them all expanded all the time which defeats the purpose in my mind. Is there a way to cause the new email numeric indicator to appear next to the parent folder and then apply to the appropriate nested folder as you click deeper into them? If not these folders are pretty useless for organizing one's inbox for new mail.

The title of this is, 'How To Display New Mail Desktop Alert For Subfolders In Outlook?' So I foolishly thought this would tell me How To Display New Mail Desktop Alert For Subfolders In Outlook.

At 'Which condition(s) do you want to check?' step, we can specify the conditions for the messages we want to put in subfolders. Once a message matches the condition(s), we can recieve an Alert and the message will be put in subfolders

It works very well... The only problem is: If the message is going to Inbox folder, I receive the same notification twice. How can it be solved?
    • To post as a guest, your comment is unpublished.
Go to File -->Options --> Mail --> Under Message Arrival, uncheck Play a sound. The rule you created will still work, but it will not play the additional sound for the Inbox.
